SANCERRE - Short horse riding holidays in Berry region

During this riding tour, you will discover a wide variety of landscapes and ecosystems: the huge forests, the wild side of the Loire, the cultivated fields and the small paths in the corner of which we can find multi-centenarians farms.

With a great care given to meals and hosting, and the comfort of a "star riding tour" (you won’t need to pack your luggage every days...), we invite you to live an epicurean adventure!

Day 1
After being welcomed with a coffee at 9am (or a breakfast if you arrived on the day before), we start riding and discover the famous potter village of La Borne. We spend a quiet morning for you to get to know your horse. Then, we ride through the Berrichonnes forests to reach the pottery national museum in La Borne where we stop for a picnic lunch. Then, we visit the museum and the pottery studio in the village before riding through the Pays Fort Sancerrois forests to be back in our inn. Dinner and night.
About 25km riding

Day 2
Today, we ride through diversified landscapes. You will ride through the Pays Fort Sancerrois and the huge forests you already know to join the Berrichonne valley, and to finally see in the horizon the Sancerre town and its west hillside. We have lunch in the Brasserie Sancerroise, which overhangs the valley and the vines. More than ten sorts of home-made beers are made here. In the afternoon, we leave Sancerre by the south hillside and ride through the small village of Chavignol, the headquarter of the famous goat cheese AOC French label, before riding back to the inn through the Pays Fort wood at about 6pm30.
About 40km riding

Day 3
Today is our last day in the Sancerre region. We ride toward the small Boucard Castle, from the XIVth century, and have lunch under it. In the afternoon, we have a free visit (about 1h) to admire the Renaissance patio and the moats fed by the Sauldre. We spend our last afternoon in the Berrichonne region before riding back to the inn at 5pm30. Everyone say goodbye from 6pm30.

It can be your first weekend ride but, with 5 to 6 hours in the saddle per day and several trots and canters daily, you need to be fit enough to enjoy your stay ! You will have to groom, saddle, unsaddle and participate to the horse’s care (feed, water, give a shower).

Our riding consultant's report

Voyage à cheval Rando Cheval

Franche Montagne horses are used to be calm and strong, and are nowadays more and more nice pleasure horses. They are trained using the ethological approach by the guides who welcome you, and you will be safe and comfortable riding these horses to visit sites which are one of the most beautiful of our heritage!
