During our weekends in Calvados, we invite you for a stationary ride from our riding centre, with 30km long day rides, to discover the hilly landscapes of the "Norman Switzerland".

In the evening, you will stay in a comfortable guesthouse at the riding centre and share a typical Norman dinner.

RIDE IN FRANCE - Ride in the Norman countryside

Day 1 - Noireau Valley
Meeting at the riding centre around 9am. We go and catch the horses in the field, get to know them and saddle them up. We begin our ride by a short introduction with the horses in the schooling yard, then we go for a trail ride. We ride down to the Noireau Valley, climb up the Berjou woods then go down again in the valley to have our packed lunch.
We follow the old railway, then the GR221, before we reach Clecy village and here we are, on the last path of the day, enjoying a last canter before we arrive at the riding centre.
Dinner and night at the guesthouse.

Day 2 - Orne Valley

After a hearty breakfast, we meet our horses again and ride towards the Orne Valley. We go up the "rock of the parks", admiring the valley below. Our ride follows the old railway, at the feet of the cliffs that we are about to climb but before, we stop for lunch into the nature.
We begin the afternoon ride with a 3km long canter on the crest line. We are on the top of the cliffs and along the flight site of hang-gliders and paragliders... We go downhill again towards the village of Pommeraie and see its beautiful castle. We are reaching the Orne Valley again, via the Briseville Rocks, before going up again to the Plainville orchards where we meet a local producer. We go across a small river to reach the riding centre.
We take care of the horses and are free to leave after 5.30pm.

Horses and riding level

RIDE IN FRANCE - Horse in Calvados

Horses

There are different types of horses. They are not very tall (from 1m40 to 1m65). They regularly take part in endurance competitions.

Tack

We use trail saddles or leather or synthetic English saddles.
Helmets are mandatory while riding.

Recommended riding experience

Because of the uneven ground, the rhythm of the ride is quite slow. However, in order to enjoy this ride fully, we recommend the riders to be comfortable at all gaits. It would also be better for the riders to have some experience in trail riding because there are a few trots and canters that can be quite long, and some parts of the ride that can be tricky.

Good to know
Children are welcome from 10 years old if they are with an adult, or 14 years old if they are not accompanied. Riders are welcome with their own horse (accommodation of the horse in a stall on straw - hay and food available with extra cost).

The local team

Karine is our guide. She is passionate about horses and nature and she is a qualified guide, expert in endurance.
RIDE IN FRANCE - Lunch in nature Accommodation
We stay at the riding centre, in the guesthouse (2 rooms - up to 4 people each). Each room has its own bathroom. Single rooms are not available.

Meals

At lunch, a vehicle brings us our meal (sandwiches and salads). For dinner, we share a typical Norman meal at the guesthouse.

Language: English / French speaking guide.

Group size: 2 to 6 riders

Closest airport / train station:

Meeting at the riding center before 08:00 am on day 1.
Departure after the ride from 6.00 pm on the last day.

Transfers can be organized from Flers train station (30 mn drive per way - 26 € per car). You should arrive in Flers before 8 am on the first day and leave after 6 pm on the last day.

Possibility of extra night in half-board pension before or after the ride, from 32 € / person. Details given in the travel documents for the booking of these services.
