The perfect compromise between nature and culture !
Meeting at Melun RER train station at 2.00pm (or at 6.00pm at St Remy lès Chevreuse train station if the ride starts in Versailles). Transfer to our guesthouse before our first cultural visit : Vaux-le-Vicomte castle. This castle, built by Nicolas Fouquet in 1615 was used as a model by Louis XIV to build Versailles castle. Dinner and night at the guesthouse.
Breakfast and transfer to the stables. We leave on horseback at 10.00am towards Fontainebleau forest. We walk under the shade of the trees until we reach the Seine river. We have a packed lunch by the river, then go again in the forest, where the ground is varied : hills, rocks, sand, birch, beech and oak trees... By the end of the afternoon, we reach the Gorges de Franchard. Dinner and night at the hotel.
Today, we will ride through Fontainebleau forest. Paths are perfect for long canters. We have lunch at Courances castle and visit its gardens : they are among the most beautiful water gardens of the Renaissance, created in the 17th century. In the afternoon, we ride through agricultural landscapes, open spaces and forests. We take an old Roman road. Dinner and night in a hotel in Itteville.
Heading to Breuillet, a hilly region, dotted with forests, long and nice paths lead us to Chamarande castle. Packed lunch and visit of the castle, built in the 17th century. This Estate opens its doors to modern art. After the Chamarande forest, we reach the Saint-Sulpice-de-Favières church. Built in 1245 according to a Flamboyant Gothic style, this sanctuary is known as the most beautiful church of the region. We spend the evening in Breuillet. Dinner and night at the hotel.
We meet our horses after breakfast. The itinerary is more hilly and dotted with nice forests and open spaces. We ride by the Castle of the Marais, which was, in the 19th century, a high meeting place for men of letters and politics. We have lunch at the edge of Rambouillet forest, nearby Saint Anne forest. Then we ride through the forest to the Tower Pond. Dinner and night at the hotel.
At 10am, we ride to the Tower Ponds, between forests and countryside, to reach the Vaux de Cernay Abbey, built in the 12th century by Cisterian monks. The abbey is now a luxurious hotel. Packed lunch and visit of the Castle of Breteuil. Built in the 16th century, the castle is wonderfully furnished. 50 characters of the Grevin Museum are visible at the end of the visit and there is also an exhibition about Perrault tales. We saddle our horses up again to go to the Chevreuse valley. We go around Chevreuse and its 11th century castle. Dinner and night in a guesthouse.
Today, we are just a few kilometers away from the turbulences of Paris. We reach Versailles forest and Saint-Cyr-l'Ecole, and finally, the gates of the Chateau de Versailles. Majestic and impressive, we enter the gates to the gardens of the castle. We ride along the Grand Canal and nearby the Grand Trianon. Packed lunch at Saint Antoine nursery. We ride on the Place d'Armes, the Piece d'Eau des Suisses and through the forest of Versailles.
