Horseback holidays in Xaintrie and High Dordogne - Ride in France
Listed as “European big site”, this country offers a multi-faceted landscape: small wooded valleys where many streams wind their way, deep gorges, steep banks which leave no room for monotony . It’s truly an endearing area.

Beautifull houses, with stoned roofs, grandiose and varying settings are to be discovered ( Ruins of Merle, Gorges of Maronne and Cère rivers, Dordogne’s high valley, as well as a multitude of history-laden villages, churches and castles) .

RIDE ITINERARY

Day 1
Reception to our riding farm in the afternoon. (If necessary, reception at the railway station of Bretenoux (46).
Diner and night in guest bedrooms on place.

Day 2
Riding through the country, we discover "Château du Rieu” (12th to 18th century) and the “Ruins of Merle’s towers” (11th to 15th century) a strange medieval site. In the afternoon, we ride up to Servières le Château where we stop in a small local hotel.

Day 3
Walking down the path with horses, we discover the little “Roc Chapel” lost in the middle of nowhere before reaching the Dordogne river and the big “Chastang’s dam“ that we cross before riding up to St Martin la Méanne and the picturesque village of La Roche Canillac. Through the plateau strewed with ponds, the way leads us to Clergoux.
Stop in an equestrian farm with guest bedrooms (All the meals are coming from the farm).

Day 4
The path leads us to the wonderfull “Sedieres castle” (16th century) which was on the “troubadour’s way”. The old restored railway station of Espagnac reminds us the beginning of the 20th century, before reaching St Chamant and it’s architectural originalities (church of 12th century and castel’s tower of 14th century). Stop in a friendly guest house with guest bedrooms and typical meals!

Day 5
In the morning, we ride up and down many wooden hills, always discovering enhanced landscape, before reaching Argentat sur Dordogne. This old town of the “Gabarriers” show us its special stoned roofs and its pavingstone quays.
In the afternoon, we climb up to the “Puy du Tour”, an old archeological site (gallo-romain). From here, we have a wonderfull panorama of Argentat and on the other side the magnificent Dordogne’s valley near Monceaux sur Dordogne, our stop for overnignt at the guesthouse with guest bedrooms and cottage, delicious meals of the country.

Day 6
Through the "Gabarrier’s path" we reach Reygades and it’s famous Christ Entombment sculpture, caved in the stone (15th century). From the upper hills, we can still enjoy the Dordogne valley landscape with Beaulieu and “Wonderland”. Once in “Port de Gagnac“ we discover the Cère river before stopping in Laval de Cère. Overnight in bungalows or guest bedrooms.

Day 7
A narrow path winding up and downhills leads us through the “Gorges de la Cère”, allowing us to discover a wild and delightfull nature, where people realised some ingenious constructions to produce electricity. After some little wooden bridges, we arrive on the plateau and a last gallop takes us towards our riding centre.
Last night in guest bedrooms on the riding farm.

Day 8
Last day, end of the trip after breakfast. Transfer to train station if necessary (at extra cost).
