PROVENCE / ALPILLES - Weekend horse riding vacation

« When God created the sun, the earth, the mountains and the waters, and organized them, he took a piece of everything and made a heaven: the Alpilles ».

To ascertain this idea, come to ride in the heart of the Alpilles regional natural park! A riding tour that Provencal landscapes, wild nature and large spaces lovers will appreciate.

Let’s ride and enjoy the sun, the azure sky, the unique colorful landscapes, the singing cicadas, the hills punctuating the horizon, the endlessly olive tree fields...

For every riding tour, the itinerary is different depending on the season, the duration of the riding tour and the guide’s mood! We suggest you various star formula riding tours: 2 to 4 days to discover the Bauxites lakes, the Alpilles ridges, the Baux de Provence Castle, Maussane, Aureille and the Marguerite valleys.
The welcome of the riders is always at 9am at the ranch, and the departure is always at about 5pm.

Day 1
Meeting point at the stables around 9am. You will be explained your itinerary for the day and will get on your horse to start the ride. We will stop for lunch outside on the way, where a nice local meal would have been prepared. Dinner and night at the guesthouse.

Day 2-3
We ride around 5 or 6 hours. Our guide will choose our itinerary depending on the conditions of the trail to make sure you have the best time possible.

Itinerary 1 : The Roman path
Riding along the former path of the Aurelian road, we ride through the Caesar Roman legion footsteps…  For lunch, we enjoy a strong and delicious picnic in the shade of the pine trees. Then, we ride through the Marguerite valleys and their olive trees silver ocean. Here, depending on the season, we see olive growers making traditional olive picking or tree cutting. Then, we ride back to the ranch and have a well deserved drink! We taste the “AOC" olives from the Baux de Provence valley and the organic olive oil made here. Dinner and night are in the inn.

Itinerary 2 : Alpilles ridges
Today, we ride through the path leading us to the ridges screen which dominates the entire Baux de Provence valley. This culminating point offers us an amazing 360° panoramic view on the whole region! When the weather is good, we can discern the Saintes Maries de la Mer, the Luberon, the Ventoux, the Languedoc… Our goal today is to reach the famous Baux de Provence Castle. Here, we enjoy dazzling colors and landscapes. We leave our horse for a while to taste a delicious lunch which smells the Provence. Then, we ride again along a fresh watercourse in the foothills of the Alpilles back to the Ranch. Dinner and night in the inn.

Itinerary 3 : Aureille
Today, we ride in the heart of the Alpilles Mountains. Charming landscapes, dazzling colors, and heady fragrances are here for us. For lunch, we stop at Aureille, a quiet and picturesque village, and we have lunch under the Castellas (a small medieval castle). Then, we have a good rest under the sun and sheltered from the wind before riding again enjoying Provencal fragrances and landscapes. In the end of the day, Sébastien, your guide, teaches you how to handle the lasso. He is both the France and Europe Team Roping champion (a western sport discipline)!
Dinner and night in the inn.

Itinerary 4 : Bauxites Lake
The broom flowers fragrance or the Bonelli eagle majestic flight lead us to a magical place. We arrive in a whole red colored landscape: this is Bauxite! Suddenly, we are in the corner of the path and we can perceive a turquoise water lake, a stark contrast! We stop into this spectacular setting to have a strong and delicious picnic lunch. Then, we ride again through lovely shadowed paths punctuating our trip and offering us unforgettable panoramic views. Then, we ride back to the ranch and have a well deserved drink in the shade of the pine trees or at the equestrian centre. We taste the “AOC" olives from the Baux de Provence valley and the organic olive oil made here. Dinner and night are in the inn.

Last day : (Sunday) : Riding tour to the olive capital

We ride towards Maussane-les-Alpilles. This Provencal village is nested in the south, where the warm and dazzling sun is present more than 300 days a year. Olive trees fields spread indefinitely, sometimes cut by alleys of cypress leading us to amazing traditional olive oil mills. We propose you to stop riding to compete for the "Oliviades" and to beat the standing record! We won’t say too much more about this… This is the surprise! We have a picnic lunch, or we eat in a saloon, and then, we play "Pétanque", a southern local sport, or we enjoy a lasso demonstration.

End of the ride, individual departure of the riders around 5pm.

The local team

This trail is guided by experienced and qualified guides. Sébastien, the main guide is both France and Europe champion of team roping and will propose an introduction to his passion over the week-end.

An assistance and safety vehicle provides us with lunch and dinner on a daily basis.

We sleep in an Inn for 4 persons during the entire duration of the riding tour (1 bedroom with a 2 persons bed + roll-away or superposed beds in the living room, a bathroom and a WC, a kitchen, a TV). The inn is a Provencal bastide from the XVIIIth century, shadowed with two hundred years old plane trees.

This equestrian farm holds the French label "Bienvenue à la ferme", a guarantee for quality, and also beneficiates from the other French equestrian label "Cheval Etape FFE".
When there is a lack of availability in the Mas, we will propose you to sleep in another inn or guesthouse.

The intendancy vehicle brings us delicious hot or cold meals for lunch. You will have a pastis or rosé wine glass, bruised olives and tapenade made in the Mas, a ratatouille with olive oil and vegetables from the garden, and finally you will have a "pénéquet" (a Provencal rest!) before riding again… Enjoy!
The dinners in the Mas are a family and Provencal cuisine.
The basic product is olive oil made in the Mas!
