During this weekend outdoors, we invite you to disconnect from daily life. Lyons Forest is a huge and hilly 11000 hectares beech grove dotted with rivers in a countryside environment perfumed by the sea.

Here, friendliness is the keyword. For 2 days or more, you will enjoy rides in the nature, on our Icelandic or Irish horses. The life around horses, fine cuisine and nice atmosphere of this charming environment will definitely revitalize you.

WEEKEND IN LYONS FOREST

Day 1
Meeting at the riding centre before 7pm. We can relax with a nice dinner cooked by our guide. During our meal, we prepare our weekend ride.
Night at the guesthouse.

Day 2

This morning, we have a healthy breakfast at 7am. We saddle up the horses and leave for a two hour ride to get used to our Icelandic horses. At noon, we are back at the guesthouse and have a packed lunch prepared with local products. Then, we start our afternoon ride, trotting, tolting and cantering in the woods. Between plains and valleys, we enjoy nice and smooth paths. We go back to the riding centre around 5pm, and take care of the horses. After some reste, we gather around another nice dinner. Night at the guesthouse.

Day 3
As previous day, we saddle our horses after breakfast. Today, we ride in Lyons Forest, the biggest forest in Normandy. We stop for lunch in a village classified as one of the most beautiful villages of France : Lyons-la-Forêt. This charming village was built on an ancient fortress, and kept the same layout. Every Sunday, there is a local market in Lyons-la-Forêt. We ride back to the riding centre at the end of the afternoon. After saying good bye to our horses, we leave at 6pm.

Horses and riding level

Horses

We use Icelandic horses for their adaptability. It is a strong, generous and nice horse who can make its rider feel at ease and who can go anywhere during the ride. They are used to living in herds and are very good trail riding horses. Our taller horses are Irish Cobs.

Tack

We use Icelandic tack, slightly different from English tack. They look like dressage saddles and the seat is rather flat. The stirrups are quite long.

Recommended riding experience

You should feel comfortable at all gaits and be endurant enough to stay 5 to 6 hours in the saddle everyday.

Special departures for novice riders can be organized.

Good to Know
Each rider is responsible for his horse : feet, detection of small scratches, brushing, and tack.
Children are allowed from 13 years old or 6 years old if accompanied by an adult.
Riders can come with their own horse.
Riding helmets are mandatory on this ride !

The local team

Patrice is our qualified riding guide. He is passionate about horses and nature.
A logistic vehicle brings us lunch at noon.
Accommodation
We stay in a guesthouse with one double room with private bathroom, or two double rooms + one single room with shared bathroom. We can also stay in a horse-drawn caravan with shared bathroom.

Meals

We eat fresh products everyday, and most of them are local.
At noon, we will have a picnic lunch. At night, we will have dinner at the guesthouse.

Language: English / French speaking guide.

Group size:

1 to 12 riders for Lyons Forest

Closest airport / train station:

Meeting point at the horse riding school around 7pm on day 1.
Transfers can be arranged from Rouen train station (30mn ride).

Riding guest reviews

"We spent a fantastic weekend with Patrice & Béa, their Icelandic horses and a group of nice people part of which were novices. Patrice and his horses are able to make total beginners canter in total security. You have to see it to believe it. Many thanks to Patrice, Béa and their wonderful Icelandic horses." - Claire & Christophe S. (Lyons - 2014)

"Patrice is a gourmet cook! Everything was delicious and I'm getting hungry just thinking about his date tajine... A real delight!" - Camille B. (Lyons - 2013)
