Riding excellent trail horses, you will also discover the Blaye Citadel, the medieval city of Saint-Emilion, the feudal castle of Rauzan and the fortified town of Cadillac. On top of that, you will cross the 3 km wide Gironde Estuary on a ferry boat with the horses.

Day 1

Dinner and night at the hotel.

Day 2
After breakfast, we saddle up the horses for 10am in a flat landscape, between vineyards and forests. We have a packed lunch nearby the Garonne River at noon and taste a Medoc wine at the wine museum of Maucaillou. Then we cross the Gironde Estuary with our horses, on a ferry boat, to Blaye (40 mn boat ride). On arrival in Blaye, we visit on horseback the citadel built by Vauban on the 18th century, then we meet a wine producer in Fredignac Castle.
Night in a 2* hotel.

Day 3
This morning, we meet our horses at 10am and go through the vineyards of Côte de Blaye and Côtes de Bourg, in a hilly countryside. We eat a packed lunch in Chateau Guionne, with a wine producer, and taste a Côte de Bourg wine. We leave the Castle at 3pm and head towards Cubnezais through a flatter landscape, riding in a humid ground, with no vineyards, for once ! Tonight, we stay in Domaine de la Gravette and taste the local wine during dinner.
Night at the Domaine.

Day 4
After breakfast, we leave on horseback in a region filled with vineyards and woods towards Mayne Vieil Castle where we have lunch and taste a Fronsac wine. On our way to Libourne, we go across Pomerol region. In Belles Graves castle, we leave our horses for the night and taste the famous wine "Lalande de Pomerol".
Night at the hotel in Libourne.

Day 5
Today, we ride to Saint Emilion, going through famous properties such as Chateau Petrus, Cheval Blanc and Chateau Figeac. We have lunch in Robin des Moines Castle and taste the local wine. This afternoon, we are free to visit Saint Emilion by ourselves.
By the end of the afternoon, we leave Saint Emilion to ride across the wide Dordogne valley and reach Saint Jean de Blaignac around 7pm. We spend the night there in a guesthouse.

Day 6
We saddle up the horses and leave at 9.30am. We are now in the Entre-deux Mers region, with varied, hilly and wooded landscapes, and its nice vineyards properties. We stop at Rauzan Castle, dated from the 13th century and taste the Entre-deux Mers wine. This afternoon, we ride among vineyards and forests in a hilly countryside heading to Broustaret Castle. We share dinner in Cadillac city, where we taste the first Cotes de Bordeaux wines. Visit of the city by night.

Horses and riding level

Horses
The horses are saddle horses : Anglo-Arabs, French saddlehorses, french trotters. They are strong and robust and are 1m52 to 1m70 tall. An harmonious herd ! The younger horse is 5 years old and the older is 19. They are all nice and well-educated, respectful of their riders. You can find a horse matching your level and expectations.
They were all born in the area and chosen for their good brains and endurance. Young horses are flanked by the older ones, so they can develop their aptitude to go forward, with calm and confidence.
