During your horse trail, you will taste red, white and rosé wines : Médoc, Côte de Blaye, Côte de Bourg, Bordeaux Supérieur, Lalande-Pomerol, Saint Émilion, Entre deux Mers, Graves and the famous Sauternes white liqueur wine (moderatly).

Riding excellent trailing horses, you will also discover Blaye Citadel built by Vauban, the Saint Émilion medieval city, the Rauzan feudal castle, and, the Bastide de Cadillac as well.

 

Adding to the excitement of your journey, you will take the boat for about three kilometers to cross the Gironde Estuary. 

Day 1 
The riders are welcomed at Bordeaux airport in the late afternoon (6pm30). If you decide to arrive at the departure train station, please take the airport shuttle (30min), and go to the meeting point in the Hall B. Transfer is done up to Moulis en Médoc hotel for dinner and night. For riders having a car, it is possible to arrive at the hotel in the late afternoon.

Day 2
After breakfast (8am), we start riding at 10am in a flat countryside, crossing vineyards and forests. We have picnic on the banks of the Gironde and we taste a Médoc at Maucaillou wine museum. Then, we cross the Gironde with our horses, on the bac, towards Blaye (40 min). When arriving, we visit riding the XVIIIth Century Vauban’Citadel, and finally, we go towards our 2* hotel for dinner and night.

Day 3 
This morning, we start riding at 10am through the Blaye Coasts and the Bourg Coasts in an undulating landscape. For lunch, we have a picnic in the Lamothe castle and we taste the Côte de Bourg wine. Departure time at about 3pm towards Cubnezais, crossing a flater landscape, with more humid zones without vineyards. The evening is by a winegrower at the estate of the Gravette.

Day 4 

After breakfast, we start riding at 9am30 in a region of vineyard intersected with groves up to Mayne Vieil castle. Here, we have a picnic and we enjoy tasting a Fronsac wine. Then, we ride through Libourne, crossing Pomerol region. Arriving at Belles Graves castle, we leave our horse and taste the famous Lalande de Pomerol wine.

Day 5
We follow our riding trail towards Saint Emilion, through the famous Pétrus castle, Cheval Blanc, and Figeac castle properties. Picnic at the Robin Des Moines castle and wine tasting. Then, we have a free visit of the town of St Emilion. The afternoon, we leave St Emilion to go through the huge valley of Dordogne, and we arrive at Courros castle. Here we have another wine tasting.
Dinner and night in a guesthouse. 

Day 6
We start riding at about 9am30. We are now in the Entre-deux Mers region, through diverse landscapes, undulated and wooded, and the amazing vineyard properties. We stop at XIIIth Century Rauzan castle, and we taste the Entre-Deux Mers wine. The afternoon, a mid vineyard, mid forest, and slightly undulating trail leads us to Broustaret castle. We have dinner in Cadillac, and we taste the early Côtes de Bordeaux.

Day 7
We ride in this Cadillac undulating region and through Garonne valley to reach Graves and Sauternes vineyards. For lunch, we have a picnic at Myrat castle. Sir Lord of Pontac shows us his winery, and invites us to taste his golden color wine. The afternoon, we gallop between vines and wood almost situated in the Landes, and we arrive at Sauternes. From the top of the Tour Blanche oenology school, we enjoy a panoramic view on Sauternes vineyards. For dinner, we taste Graves wine, and we spend the night in a hotel at Sauternes.

Day 8
After breakfast, riders are transferred at Bordeaux airport depending on the departure time of the first riders to leave. The riders having a train have to take the shuttle from the airport (30 min).

Important : The above itinerary is provided on an indicative basis and our guide reserves the right to modify the itinerary depending on the condition of paths, the seasons, the availabilities in the hotels and guesthouses. It is also possible to do this horse tour in one direction or in the other.

Our horses and required riding ability

Horses
Arabic and Paint crossbred horses, Arabic breed and saddle breed. They live in meadow throughout the year in herd, and most of them were born in our equestrian farm. Our horses are trained in winter in order to be ready for summer trails.

Tack
Leather trail saddles customized for this horse breed, "Myler" horse net,
Saddle pad with pockets included, as well as a poncho and water bottles.
Helmet is not compulsory but strongly recommended.

Recommended riding ability

This riding tour is suitable for advanced riders who well manage the three gaits (walk, rising trot, suspended gallop) on a varied terrain, and in open spaces. The advanced rider has a regular riding practice, a good physical condition (able to ride 30 kilometers per day, an average of 5 hours riding).

Good to know
Children are welcome from 16 years old if they are with an adult.

Guide

David is an Equestrian Tourism Guide. He speaks English and knows the technical terms in that language. Britta is the translator in English, German, Dutch, and Spanish, and she makes you discover the history of the region.

Logistic
The logistic vehicle follows the riding trail (vehicle + converted van) to prepare your lunch and dinner. Logistic staff prepares a buffet for lunch and is aware of your needs. Luggages are carried in the vehicle.

Accommodation

Every evening you are in a hotel or in a guesthouse in a double or twin bedroom. You can ask for a single bedroom with an extra charge. We will do our best for you to share your room with another rider, but in case there is no rider to share with you, you will be in a single room with an extra charge.

Meals
Continental breakfast.
For lunch, you will have a cold buffet with a large choice (adapted to particular diets) with wine, coffee and water included, organized by the trail logistic.
You will have dinner in the guesthouse, in the restaurant or in the hotel (wine and other extras are not included).

Languages spoken by the guide: English / French / German /Dutch, and Spanish speaking guide.

Group size: from 5 to 10 riders maximum.

Arrival airport / train station:

If you arrive by car : meeting point in the afternoon directly at the hotel.
If you arrive by train or plane, transfers are organized at 6.30pm in Bordeaux airport.
On the last day, transfers are organized before 11.00am in Bordeaux airport.
